The East Feliciana Parish School Board shall authorize the Superintendent or his/her designee to announce the closing of any or all schools if prevailing or potential hazards threaten the safety and well-being of pupils, staff, or school property.  If practical, the Superintendent or his/her designee shall make the decision after conferring, when administratively feasible, with members of the East Feliciana Parish School Board and other community/state/federal agencies responsible for the safety and well-being of the community.

Public announcements and releases to news media shall be made by the Superintendent or his/her designee.  Each Board Member shall also be notified of any school closures.

If students have reported to school and an emergency arises during the school day, students may be dismissed early.  Such dismissal shall be only by direction of the Superintendent or his/her designee.  In the event of dismissal during the school day, all educational and building employees are to continue with their daily work schedules, unless otherwise notified by the Superintendent or his/her designee.  The Superintendent’s Office shall notify news media and other such persons and organizations as necessary of the decision to dismiss early.  In cases where students are dismissed early, teachers are expected to supervise all students under their jurisdiction until they have departed from the school campus.

The East Feliciana Parish School Board will keep its office open during regularly scheduled hours unless extreme inclement weather or other emergency necessitates the curtailment of all but essential services.  When School Board offices are open, all employees are expected to come to work or remain at work until officially released.  This directive applies to all School Board employees.

When emergency conditions are such that the Superintendent or his/her designee declares the official closure of East Feliciana Parish Schools, all employees other than those in emergency essential positions, shall be excused for the day with pay (Inclement Weather Pay, Hazard Pay, Emergency Leave Pay).  In the event of an impending emergency, or any type disaster, the Superintendent shall decide which employees are essential.  Employees that are required to work during an official closure shall receive overtime for all hours actually worked in excess of forty (40) hours per week.  Hours worked shall not include meal or sleep breaks.
